Prologue:
1 - Worship Our first step in fulfilling the mission centers on worship. To worship God is to adore, honor, and celebrate Him always. The origins of the word worship can be traced to the Old English word worthship or worthiness. To “worship” God is to ascribe ultimate worth to Him. We often ascribe worth to people for what they do for us or what benefit they may bring to an organization. God is certainly worthy of our adoration for what He has done, but His worth exceeds any measure of performance. God is worthy to be worshiped for who He is. He is worthy of our constant adoration by virtue of His love alone. He deserves our constant obedience because His ways are perfect and His wisdom surpasses the best of human consensus. Justice demands that He receive glory from His creation. His supremacy invites our praise. When we see the wonder of God revealed His Word, human response is to praise and adore Him. He is incomparable!
2 - Discipleship A disciple is one who learns from a teacher, like an apprentice studying under a master. Because God is infinite we can never learn all there is to know of Him, so we become lifelong learners. Knowing God and learning His ways is much like an everdeeping friendship, except that there are no breadth of knowing Him. A true disciple of Jesus wants to know more of Him, more of His Word, more of His power, more of His wisdom, and more of His Grace. Becoming a follower of Christ is like laying of a great foundation. While the foundation is essential to whatever will be built, it is only the starting point. Beyond the foundation, God has magnificent and unique designs on every life.
3 - Evangelism In 1951, Mercedes’ legendary auto design engineer Bela Barenyi patented “crumple zone” safety technology. Barenyi designed the front and the rear sections of an automobile to collapse, or crumple on impact, absorbing and dissipating energy preserving the integrity of the passenger compartment. Barenyi’s innovations have saved thousands of lives. Mercedes chose to not enforce the patent on this revolutionary technology. Berenyi’s design has been copied throughout the automotive industry. When a Mercedes engineer was asked why the company has no enforced their patent, the engineer replied matter-of-factly, “Because some things in life are too important not to share.” The message that God has entrusted us is too important not to share. The Church is the only redeeming agency in the world. There is no other. If we are silent, the cost will be measured in people lost for eternity. We must not be deceived by baseless and vain philosophies that argue “all roads lead to God.” Jesus claimed exclusivity when He said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). There is no other way. This gospel must be preached. |
